Amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine, NATO announced plans to further increase its rapid response force from 40.000 troops to more than 300.000, with Canada putting up to 3,400 army, air force, and naval personnel on standby for deployment.
But, as David Perry, vice-president of the Canadian Global Affairs Institute and a defence policy expert says, Canadian officials will likely face a “challenging” NATO leaders summit amid new data suggesting a defence spending dip, and growing public confusion about where the cash is coming from for major promised NORAD upgrades, experts warn.
