COVID-19: What we know so far about Omicron’s BA.2 subvariant

There are signs the Omicron wave has peaked in Canada. Canada’s chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam says average case counts dropped by 20 per cent compared to last week, with wastewater surveillance and positivity rates also trending down.

But Tam says cases of severe illness and death are still rising. And now concerns are also growing over Omicron’s new subvariant BA.2 that’s been detected in Canada. Abigail Bimman breaks down what’s known so far about the new mutation and what health experts are watching out for.
