From National Geographic.

Marine protected areas (MPAs) restore ocean life and provide a better future for everyone. Since 2008, National Geographic Pristine Seas has worked with local communities to create 23 MPAs, covering 6.5 million square kilometers of ocean. Over the next decade, Pristine Seas is committed to helping communities around the world establish more MPAs so we can achieve the global goal of 30% of the ocean protected by 2030 – for the benefit of people and nature.
