Q&A – My new potting soil has a fungus. What should I do?

From Family Plot.

This is slime mold. UT Extension Agent Booker T. Leigh says slime mold likes to grow on fresh organic material. It does not cause any harm to the plants; it is only living on the dead organic matter in the mulch or soil. If you don’t like the way it looks, you can rake it out.
