Pampas grass should be cut back before new growth begins to emerge in the spring. Retired MSU Horticulture Specialist Dr. Lelia Kelly says she usually cuts back her ornamental grasses in February. This allows them to beautify the garden in the winter. She gives some advice on how to cut them back.
