DIRECTV NOW lost 267,000 subscribers from September – end of 2018. But why?
From raised prices to promotion periods ending, it was just bad timing for DIRECTV NOW, and the result was a mad dash away from the streaming service provider’s platform.
Here are more interesting details.
In July 2018 DIRECTV NOW raised their prices by $5/mo. and during the last 3 months of 2018, promotional pricing ended for many subscribers, including AT&T Unlimited Cell Phone plan customers.
Meanwhile, Sling TV, YouTube TV, and Hulu with Live TV all gained subscribers during the mass exodus from DIRECTV NOW.
AT&T’s CEO, Randall Stephenson, said AT&T plans to alter DIRECTV NOW and possible charge more while “thinning the content.” Our guess—it has something to do with adding HBO.
We think DIRECTV NOW can fix their issues by actually giving users what they want… which is a la carte TV.
